The Courtyard House
Posted by Rob Meynell - 27 August 2014

We are currently working on the design of this exciting new-build family home in West Sussex. The Clients brief calls for interesting open-plan living spaces with seamless connections to large dense and mature garden areas.

An existing Copper Beech tree has been used to form the design of the new building around, providing a courtyard and focal point.

Key spaces within the house are spread across split levels as they respond to the slope of the site.  Main living areas effortlessly spill out over landscaped gardens and sheltered external dining areas whilst a sunken internal family space looks across a swimming pool and to the woodland beyond.

Sussex Heritage Awards
Posted by Chris Scarr - 09 July 2014

CDMS Architects were Highly Commended for their ‘Regency Refurbishment’ project at this year’s Sussex Heritage Awards. These annual awards are given out to built projects which add to the architectural heritage of Sussex - our project was nominated in the Small Scale Residential category and the event was attended by Corin Morton of CDMS Architects, our clients Andrew & Julia Collin, and the contractors Woodmans Construction.

The judges described the project as “a thoughtful and well considered restoration of this Grade 2 Listed villa built circa 1853, to a single family residence; involving detailed discussions for listed building purposes without compromise to the building’s original integrity, and yet accommodating the client’s contemporary requirements. A number of the original architectural features have been restored and enhanced, in particular the York and Portland stone flooring and staircase.” .

Congratulations to everyone involved!

Waterfront Coastal Resort
Posted by Kathy Kutter - 06 June 2014

CDMS Architects has recently undertaken a masterplan for a waterfront coastal resort in Saudi Arabia. The resort aims to create an International Style community, with villas, hotel, restaurants and cafes set around the coast and its beach areas. The landscape design uses gentle curves to lead you down to the beach front. The central area is landscaped with areas of water, trees, pathways and bridges and shaded areas for sitting, drinking coffee and relaxation.

There are three villa types varying in size and facilities, with balconies, gardens, roof terraces, modern Saudi Arabian open plan living spaces and a range of sleeping accommodation. Designed with an art deco flavour they invoke a ‘feel good’ sunshine feeling of elegance combined with leisure. This style is still very current because of its clean modernist lines and practical use of materials.
