Waterfront Coastal Resort
Posted by Kathy Kutter - 06 June 2014

CDMS Architects has recently undertaken a masterplan for a waterfront coastal resort in Saudi Arabia. The resort aims to create an International Style community, with villas, hotel, restaurants and cafes set around the coast and its beach areas. The landscape design uses gentle curves to lead you down to the beach front. The central area is landscaped with areas of water, trees, pathways and bridges and shaded areas for sitting, drinking coffee and relaxation.

There are three villa types varying in size and facilities, with balconies, gardens, roof terraces, modern Saudi Arabian open plan living spaces and a range of sleeping accommodation. Designed with an art deco flavour they invoke a ‘feel good’ sunshine feeling of elegance combined with leisure. This style is still very current because of its clean modernist lines and practical use of materials.

Housing Design Competition
Posted by Corin Morton - 27 March 2014

CDMS Architects recently submitted this design for a competition to design new apartment in East London. The brief asked for designs to replace a local community centre, which was to be relocated elsewhere, with affordable housing. Situated adjacent to an existing 5-a-side football pitch and children’s playground, CDMS Architects’ proposal sees the design of two buildings set on a raised landscaped podium. The design seeks to improve physical connections and communication between residents through the means of positive overlooking. Shaded seating areas on the podium provide a perfect vantage point for parents overseeing children in the playground, whilst being able to relax and talk together. Above this, the apartments have obliquely orientated windows and inset balconies which assist in providing visual connections between residents and over the public spaces below.

Eco Refurbishment
Posted by Rob Meynell - 27 February 2014

CDMS Architects recently obtained planning to undertake extensive refurbishment and extension of their detached early 19th century property located in the centre of Storrington.

A single-storey rear extension has enabled a modern twist
with a large open-plan Kitchen and top-lit Dining space via a large skylight. Large bi-fold sliding doors have allowed the re-connection between the Kitchen and Dining areas and the mature garden beyond. External Landscaping creating an extension of the dining space is a key element of the clients brief. The clients require a highly sustainable approach to all materials and heating aspects with the inclusion of Solar Thermal technology.

The project is expected to start onsite in April 2014.
