The development site is located on the apex of a busy triangular site on the boundary of Brixton Hill and Streatham Hill adjacent to Christchurch Road. The new building will replace a singular detached Victorian house with a four-storey mixed-use development comprising a two-storey Primary Care Trust health centre with two further stories above containing thirteen residential luxury apartments.
The top floor of apartments will have double height vaulted ceilings as the roof form undulates in a series of pitches, echoing the forms of the dense number of Victorian pitched roofs in the local area. The new PCT health centre will service the community as an essential amenity and will replace the current health centre located nearby which has become outdated.
CDMS Architects has been appointed to develop the project through detailed design, all technical stages and through construction to completion.
The practice has completed various technical reports which analyse the existing design with the aim to ensure the development will meet the strict planning conditions and environmental requirements set by Lambeth Borough Council. The PCT must achieve a ‘very good’ BREEAM environmental rating and the apartments much achieve Code for Sustainable Homes ‘Level 3’.
